Thank you for visiting! The Negro League Football (NLF) website is a work in progress as we continue to explore and learn more about the Negro football teams & leagues in the United States from the 1920s to the 1940s. I know there are many teams & players whose acknowledgement is long overdue, including my grandfather, Hubert Simpson. Hubert and his brothers, Bill & Ralph, played on the Harrisburg Trojans, a semi-professional Negro football team. My grandfather was the quarterback. My great uncle, Bill Simpson along with Phil Mason and Lewis Carlton were instrumental in starting the team and helping them to be recognized as one of the most outstanding Negro professional football teams in the United States. In 1941, the Harrisburg Trojans played the New York Brown Bombers on City Island in Harrisburg. I remember my grandmother saying the game was jam-packed and celebrities such as Pearl Bailey were in attendance, the day they won on Sunday, November 2, 1941! The Trojans would go on to win the Negro World Championship again in 1942 and 1944.

It’s an honor to be able to share some of my grandfather’s story. I look forward to hearing your stories about The Negro League.
